PURPOSE:To obtain a penetrant composed of a specific amide compound, having low foaming property and capable of exhibiting excellent permeation when added to an alkali solution of high concentration. CONSTITUTION:This penetrant consists of an amide compound obtained by reacting an amine expressed by the formula [R1 and R2 are each H or a 1-10C aliphatic alkyl (at least one of R1 and R2 is an alkyl and the total number of carbon atoms of R1 and R2 is 2-12); X<b+> is a hydrogen ion, an alkali metal ion, an alkaline earth metal ion, ammonium ion or an organic amine ion; Y is a direct bond, a 1-12C alkylene, alkenylene or phenylene which is not substituted or substituted with OH, SO3M, OSO3M (M is H, an alkali metal organic amine residue, etc.); (m) and (n) are each 1, 2 or 3; (b) is 1 or 2; (a) satisfies n=(a)X(b)] with a polycarboxylic acid or its anhydride. The penetrant is added into an alkali bath of high alkali concentration for mercerization or alkali-thinning process and can exhibit excellent permeation activity without preventing alkali thinning function. |
