The protective sleeve (14) to prevent corrosion and encrusting in the wall of a metal pipe (1), carrying a liquid, is inserted into a lateral drilling (10). The sleeve (14) has a core bush (15) of a corrosion-resistant material with shape stability, and with a smooth inner surface (16). A mantle bush (18) is fitted durably round the outside of the core bush (15), of a flexible material. The end of the core bush (15), away from the interior (23) of the pipe, has a lock (25) to secure it in place at the pipe (1), at the housing (7) of the pipe fitting (5). A seal (27) is near the mounting lock (25), to seal the zone between the protective sleeve (14) and the housing (7). The mantle bush (18) is of ethylene propylene rubber or acryl nitrile butadiene rubber, or an elastomer which swells when it absorbs liquid. The core bush (15) is of a high tensile plastics, and pref. a modified polyphenylene ether. |
