The dobby assembly, to control the shaft movements in an automatic loom, has the catch units (12,14;12,15), which work together for each pedal, fitted to the pedal and the levers (16,17) at the pedal spindle. The controlled interaction through the catches is effected by linking the pedal (10) and the lever (16) of the levers (16,17) according to the control action. The drive system (20) is set so that, when the linkage has been set with the lever (16) connected to the pedal, the pedal follows the lever movements to direct the shafts for the woven pattern required. Preferably the drive system (20) acts on the levers (16,17) through the catch blades (14,15). With two levers (16,17), each has a catch blade (14,15) forming part of the catch section, to be linked together by a rocker (12) at the pedal when the pedal (10) is in an intermediate setting. In the intermediate position, the rocker is oriented according to the control to work with the blade at one of the levers (16,17). The intermediate position represents a closed shed position at the shaft frame, worked by the pedal through the connecting linkage (3-7). The control works with an operating section (13) which is controlled by the pattern program control unit (SH) at the loom, to determine if the shaft frame is to be moved into the upper or lower shed position.
