Apparatus for use in a transfer system for causing movement in first and second orthogonal directions includes a ball screw (8) for moving a carriage (16) in the first direction a predetermined distance and then moving a primary lever (1) and concurrently a second lever (3) to cause movement of the carriage (16) in the second direction.
