<p>In a process for manufacturing mats, a first yarn (1) and a second yarn (2) are tufted onto a substrate (3) to produce a tufted fibre layer (4) having tufts of said first and second yarns. The tufted fibre layer (4) is subjected to a pressing process in which heat and pressure are applied to the fibre layer (4) at a pressing temperature Tp. The fibre layer (4) is then subjected to a pile recovery process to raise the pile of the first yarn tufts (1). The first yam (1) is a twisted yam that has been heat set at a first temperature T 1 where T 1 >T p and the second yarn (2) is either a yarn that has not been heat set or a yarn that has been heat set at a second temperature T 2 where T 2 <T p . The first yarn tufts (1) have a larger pile height in the finished mat than the second yarn tufts (2).</p> |
