Machine for the manufacturing of a dental prosthesis using a composite support shell

The prosthesis consists of a supporting shell (2) designed to cover a natural, implanted or artificial stump (1), and an outer finish coating (3) over the supporting shell. The shell is of a composite material made from reinforcing fibres (4) embedded in a matrix (5), while the finish coating is made from a material with at least one ingredient of the same nature as one of the matrix ingredients. The composition material can be made, for example, from ceramic fibres in a matrix based on ceramic powder, with the finish coating also based on ceramic powder. In a variant the supporting shell and finish coating can be based on a methacrylate resin, esp. dimethacrylate. In addition, the supporting shell's module of elasticity is no more than 25 GPa, and preferably 7-25 GPa, and never more than 25 per cent different from that of natural dentine.
