PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently recover the lost heat of the heating zone combustion exhaust gas. SOLUTION: A heat exchanger to raise the temperature of the circulating gas to be blown into a preheating zone of an annealing furnace through a heat storage body 2 is provided with a circulating gas distribution duct 4 and a heating zone combustion exhaust gas distribution duct 5 in which the heat regenerating body is alternately held from each side and the circulating gas and the heating zone combustion exhaust gas 5 flows in the opposite direction into the heat regenerating body while circulating in the same direction. A purge gas buffer passage which is turned together with each duct and removes the heating zone combustion exhaust gas left in the heat regenerating body and foreign matters contained therein is provided between the circulating gas distribution duct 4 and the heating zone combustion exhaust gas distribution duct 5.
