摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the gap between substrates nearly uniform and to obtain high-quality display performance with no display luminance unevenness by holding the thickness of a liquid crystal layer charged between the substrates within a thickness range of specific values. SOLUTION: The thickness of the liquid crystal layer charged between the two substrates is held within⊕4%. The highest part of a pattern having steps in the seal area is made nearly equal in height over the entire circumference of the seal to make the gap between the two substrates in the seal area nearly uniform over the entire circumference. Namely, a TFT array substrate 11 faces a color filter substrate 19 across a seal member 18 with which spacers 25 are mixed, and the conductive films 20 and 23 and insulating film 13 of connection wires 12 and 14 are so set that they have equal steps, i.e., the highest parts of both the connection wires 12 and 14 are equal in height. Consequently, the spacers in an image display area are adjusted in size properly to obtain the nearly uniform gap between the substrate over the entire screen.
