A mechanism (10) for locking a fluorescent lamp adaptor to a standard incandesce nt screw-in lamp socket utilizing base member (12) having a bottom and wall portions. The wall portion of the base memb er (12) possesses an inner surface (62) and an outer surface (64) and an aperture (66) extends through the wall portion (60). A male screw-in element (70) is also utilized and is confined to the base member (12) for freely rotating relative to the base member and the screw-in lamp socket. A tool (84) urges the threaded male screw-in element (70) into threading engagement with the stand ard screw-in lamp socket (74) to permit insertion and removal of the lamp adaptor in relation to the standard screw-in lamp socket (74).
