PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve strength while maintaining the characteristics of activated carbon, namely, a large specific surface area and a high electrostatic capacity, by containing a Si of a specific quantity in solid activated carbon. SOLUTION: Strength can be improved by adding a small quantity of Si as silane coupling agent or glass in the case of containing Si in solid activated carbon. Therefore, both high electrostatic capacity and strength can be satisfied. Strength can be improved while maintaining the characteristics of the activated carbon, namely, a large specific surface area and a high electrostatic capacity, by constituting the solid activated carbon by containing a Si of 5-10wt.%. When the electrode of an electric double layer capacitor is formed by using such solid activated carbon, the electric double layer capacitor having a high electrostatic capacity and high performance can be obtained. The improved strength facilitates its manufacture and assembly, and high performance electric double layer capacity can be mass-produced. |
