PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the jet-recovering of high suction recovery performance even when a long multi-recording head is used by closing a valve at the time of suction recovery of the recording head, actuating a suction pump to increase the negative pressure in a pressure chamber and releasing the valve in the above state. SOLUTION: A waste ink flow path 45 is shut off by closing a release valve 46 after the completion of the capping operation, and a suction pump 45 is actuated in the above state to set the atmospheric pressure in a pressure chamber 47 to be negative lower than the atmospheric pressure without applying the negative pressure to a nozzle section of a recording head. At that time, the pressure in the pressure chamber 47 is set so that the pressure in a suction cap 42 is to be (the pressure -Pr) lower than (the pressure -Pn) for recovering the suction of the recording head 1, when the valve 46 is released. The negative pressure in the pressure chamber 47 is raised while being sensed by a pressure sensor, and when the pressure in the pressure chamber become (the set pressure -Pr) and the valve 46 is released, a nozzle face is closed by the suction cap 42, and (the negative pressure -Pr) is applied uniformly all nozzles on the nozzle section of the recording head. |
