PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical transmitter in which a transmission characteristic deterioration caused by a reflected light is sufficiently suppressed through a simple and inexpensive configuration in the case of transmission by the optical SCM system. SOLUTION: An oscillation section 102 provides an output of an additional signal with a frequency that is higher than a frequency in a frequency band width assigned to an electric signal to be transmitted and lower than a half of a minimum frequency in the frequency in the frequency band width assigned to the electric signal to be transmitted. Even should a secondary intermodulation distortion take place between the additional signal and the electric signal to be transmitted, the frequency of the distortion is at the outside of the frequency band assigned to the electric signal to be transmitted and then the produced secondary intermodulation distortion gives no effect on the electric signal to be transmitted. Furthermore, should a secondary harmonic distortion of the additional signal take place, the frequency of the distortion is at the outside of the frequency band assigned to the electric signal to be transmitted and no effect of the produced secondary harmonic distortion is given onto the electric signal to be transmitted.
