PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the use of a soliton pulse and to transmit a signal in a normal dispersion optical fiber part by including filters which vary in frequency with distances along a transmission system in a frequency band corresponding to the normal dispersion mode of an optical fiber. SOLUTION: In the frequency band corresponding to the normal dispersion mode of the optical fiber, the filters are included which vary in frequency with the distances along the transmission system. This system includes two transmitting and receiving terminals 1 and 2 which are connected by optical fiber sections 31 to 3n and separated by repeaters 41 to 4n-1, and the optical fiber sections consist of fibers which have, for example, dispersion D=0.2ps/nm.km and section length 80km. The respective repeaters 41 to 4n-1 include Fabry-Perot filters of, for example, 0.48nm in width and 0.77nm in free spectrum interval and the filters have center frequencies which decrease at a variation rate of -24GHz/Mm along the transmission line to continuously vary. |
