PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a liquid crystal display element which can prevent generation of rubbing stripes at the time of an orientation treatment such as a rubbing process. SOLUTION: A substrate 1 for the liquid crystal display element is constituted by forming an inorganic oriented film such as SiO or an organic oriented film such as polyimide on the surface of a translucent substrate such as glass. The orientation treatment for orienting liquid crystal molecules in a prescribed direction is executed in a rubbing process by rubbing the surface thereof in a definite direction with a rubbing member such as gauze, felt, rubber and a brush. Whole shape of the substrate 1 for the liquid crystal display element is formed to a square shape such as a regular square and a rectangle and its end faces 7 and corner parts 2, 3, 4, 5 are subjected to a chamfering treatment for attaining smooth curved surfaces. Further, a radius of curvature of one corner part 5 is formed larger than radii of curvature of other corner parts 2, 3, 4, at the sight of corners from the substrate surface in order to clearly and quickly judge the posture of the substrate 1. |
