PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a target detector which detects a target with small circuit scale even when a target that looks large on a screen of a near target, etc., is an object by using a means which contracts an image. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a smoothing filter 13, an image contracting means 11, a local luminance dispersion measuring means 15, a target deciding means 17, a 2nd local luminance dispersion measuring means 18, a 2nd image contracting means 20, a 2nd target deciding means 22 and an AND circuit 23, and a contrast filter emphasizes a small area after contracting a smoothed image. Also, an AND of both a target decision result based on the luminance dispersion of a high frequency component in an image and a target decision result based on the luminance dispersion of a low frequency component is taken, and a target deciding means is provided. |
