COLOR SEPARATION ELEMENT, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND PROJECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform color separation in a small space and to use a liquid crystal device without a color filter by combining a lens array and a diffraction grating. SOLUTION: The cylindrical lens array (1) 1 is formed by the glass plate of thickness 500μm and the cylindrical lens array of a pitch 300μm is formed on one side. The lens array (2) 2 is formed by the glass plate of the thickness 2mm and the three kinds of the lens arrays are turned to one set and repeatedly formed with the pitch 100μm on one side. The diffracting grating 3 is separated on the plane side of the lens arrays (1) 1 and (2) 2 and this color separation element is formed. The light of the respective wavelengths of blue, green and red deflected by the three kinds of the lenses of the lens array (2) 2 is turned to the same direction as incident white light and the incident white light is converted to the light separated into blue, green and red by the pitch of the lens array (1) 1.
