PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce erroneous discharge in a cell adjacent to a cell subjected to discharge so as to improve the luminous efficiency of a PDP by allowing at least one part of the constitutional element of gas for generating a plasma to include the gas generating negative ions. SOLUTION: When recording discharge is carried out firstly in the left side cell formed by X electrode 22-1 and Y electrode 23-1 and ions move onto the A electrode 29 of the left side cell and electrically charged positively, and then if recording discharge is carried out in the right side cell formed by X electrode 22-2, Y electrode 23-2, any positive charging on the left side A electrode 29 is eliminated by movement of excessive electrons and recorded information can be possibly erased. As a countermeasure therefore, gases O2 , N2 , etc., are added to other rare gases Ne, Xe so as to convert excessive electrons to negative ions, so that unnecessary migration of electrons to adjacent cells can be restricted, and written information can be prevented from being erased. |
