PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a small UV-radiator being used in sterilization, spectral diagnosis, observation of ore, old mound, and the like, by mounting a cBN emission diode formed of cBN-pn junction or heterojunction of cBN-diamond and irradiating light of specified emission wavelength. SOLUTION: A cBN-LED 5 is disposed in a tubular protective cover 1 having a transparent window 4 at one end and a fiber 2 for illumination lamp and a fiber 3 for observation/image pickup optical system are arranged at the outer circumferential part thereof. A condenser lens 6 is interposed between the cBN- LED 5 and the transparent window 4 and an illumination lamp 7, an observation/image pickup optical system 8, and the like, are disposed in the rear. The cBN-LED 5 emits light having wavelength of 190-700nm and comprises a cBN emission diode formed of cBN-pn junction or heterojunction of cBN-diamond. This arrangement reduces the size of the UV-irradiator which can be driven with a low power to exhibit a stabilized emission intensity and can be employed for diagnosis in the medical field or archaeological observation. |
