PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide voice memos of a portable terminal of a cellular telephone system without using large capacity memory. SOLUTION: Memory 15 is provided for a voice memo. A digital voice signal is stored in the memory 15 in the form of what is performed compression coding by a variable length code. Thereby, data quantity that is required for a voice memo is reduced, a voice quality is not deteriorated, a recording time is improved, and memory capacity is reduced. Also, a voice signal is compressed in a compression system that is the same as a CDMA system and stored in the memory 15. Therefore, this device does not need a special circuit to be added, the increase of a circuit scale nor the increase in costs.
