1285878 Traffic barrier; operating mechanism G R FALKINER-NUTTALL 15 Aug 1969 [20 Aug 1968] 39713/68 Headings E1G and E2M A traffic barrier for a car park or railway crossing comprises a bar 1 which can be raised or lowered about a horizontal pivot 2 on a support 3, and is constructed such that, if struck by a vehicle when the bar 1 is horizontal, either the whole structure or the outer part of the bar will pivot about a vertical axis; the operating mechanism comprises a linear electric motor 7 and an actuating rod 6 operatively connected between the motor and the inner end of the bar. A crank arm or link 4 extends rigidly from the pivoted end of the bar 1 and is pivotally connected to the actuating rod 6, the motor being operable to move the rod 6 longitudinally in either direction to pivot the bar. The motor 7 is pivotally mounted and has dashpots 10 and 11 at its ends to abut limit switches 12 and 13 at the ends of the rod 6. The mechanism is housed in the support 3 which is rotatably mounted on a base 14. The power supply 9 to the motor may be operated manually, or automatically by vehicle actuation, e.g. by ground plate or light beam. In another embodiment the bar 1 is in two parts hinged together and normally held in alignment by a spring, the outer part pivoting with respect to the inner part when struck. The barrier may be provided with warning lights or reflectors and an automatic signal or alarm device operable when the bar is struck. |
