Nickel carbonyl production by action of carbon monoxide - on nickel source and tribomechanical treatment

(In)organic Ni cpd. or Ni is passed continuously into reactor and subjected to continuous ball or jet milling at 45-60 degrees C in absence of catalyst and/or abrasive with continuous introduction of O2- and CO2-free (gas containing is not 10 vol.%) CO, at such rate that is not 20 vol.% CO reacts. Exit gas stream is freed from dust, supercooled to remove Ni carbonyl and then recycled, with addition of fresh gas if necessary. Generator gas containing 30 vol.% CO is esp. suitable. Advantages are possibility of using relatively low temp. and pressure, absence of catalyst and/or abrasive, almost complete (is not 95%) extraction of Ni and high yield of S, Se and I-free Ni carbonyl in unit time.
