The microwave attenuator is such that the attenuation can be regulated between a maximum attenuation and a minimum attenuation value. This is done in accordance with an octopole coupler with localised or distributed elements having coupled and decoupled paths. Among the decoupled paths there is a direct path mechanism. This is used during transmission with the attenuation being effected on the direct path. An input signal is attenuated when connected to an end (1) of the direct path, with an operating charge being connected to the other end (2) of the direct path. The octopole is preferably a 90 degree coupler which can be chosen from line couplers, ring couplers, through couplers, diaphragm couplers, and couplers with active transistors. |
