PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform the double-sided display that one surface performs display with an electroluminescent element and the other surface performs display with a liquid crystal display element by providing a liquid crystal display element having a liquid crystal cell and a light deflecting plate in a metal electrode side of an electroluminescent element, which has a light emitting layer between a transparent electrode and a metal electrode. SOLUTION: A transparent electrode 12, which is made of the indium-tin oxide(ITO), is formed on a glass board 11 by sputtering, and a hole transporting layer 13, which is formed of TPD expressed with a formula I and which has a thickness of 500Å, and a metal electrode 15, which is formed of Alg3 expressed with a formula II and which has a thickness of 2000Å, are vacuum- deposited onto the transparent electrode 12 so as to form an organic electroluminescent element 10. A liquid crystal cell 24, which is formed by pinching a liquid crystal 23 between the transparent electrodes 22a, 22b, is fitted to the metal electrode 15 side of the organic electroluminescent element 10, and a light deflecting plate 25 is fitted to the liquid crystal cell 24 so as to form a liquid crystal display element 20.
