PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the liquid crystal projector of simple constitution which effectively utilizes light source luminous flux and has no color irregularity. SOLUTION: The light of a light source 11 having passed through an UV/IR filter 12 has harmful light cut by a liquid crystal panel and is passed through an integrator lens 10, so that its red light irradiates a red liquid crystal panel 5R through a red separating dichroic mirror 1, a total reflecting mirror 3, a red transmission dichroic filter 7R, and a red polarizing plate 6R. Similarly, green and blue lights also irradiate respective panels through mirrors and filters. Here, the dichroic mirrors 1 and 2 transmit P-polarized lights and reflect S- polarized lights. When lights are made incident on the dichroic mirrors 1 and 2 at 45 deg., the P-polarized lights and S-polarized lights are selectively passed through and reflected by the dichroic mirrors 1 and 2 by making good use of the properties that half-value wavelengths of the P-polarized lights and S- polarized lights vary by approximately±15mm, and then half-value wavelengths of the dichroic mirrors of the respective colors are properly selected for the half-value wavelengths of natural lights.
