The shoe box comprises a rectangular bottom (2) and a cover (3). The box which is made from a single blank has two vertical faces (4A, 4B) parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shoes (12) and two vertical transverse faces (4C, 4D). The transverse faces are each extended by a retractable wedging end wall (5, 6) which can occupy two positions. In one position they merge with the plane of the transverse faces of the box leaving access to the box interior volume. In the other position in the volume they form a wedge between the box opening plane and the shoes. The box enables the shoes to be stocked side by side, not head to toe, without any damage.
