PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent erroneous detection by an optical detecting mechanism for detecting the housing state of cartridges housed in rack shelves without upsizing the device main body. SOLUTION: A horizontal carrier part 10 and a recording and reproducing part 12 are provided above the rack shelves 4 and 6 disposed opposite to each other via a carriage 8 respectively. The cartridge housing state is optically detected by light receiving elements PD1 and PD2 provided in the vicinities of upper end parts of the horizontal carrier part 10 and the recording and reproducing part 12 respectively and light emitting elements LD1 and LD2 provided in the vicinities of the lowermost ends of the rack shelves 4 and 6 respectively. Even when the cartridge CRu' and (CRu") in slots 14 and 16 positioned in the uppermost parts of the rack shelves 4 and 6 are jumped out, and diffused external light from the outside is reflected by them, since spaces between their reflecting surfaces and the light receiving elements PD1 and PD2 are separated further at least by the thickness of the horizontal carrier part 10 or the recording and reproducing part 12 respectively, the intensity of the reflected light is weakened, and hence the erroneous detection in the light receiving elements PD1 and PD2 is suppressed.
|
