PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Ethernet accompanied with credit-base flow control. SOLUTION: An Ethernet computer network uses a repeater, and the repeater performs credit-base flow control for the purpose of minimizing the loss of packets in the repeater. The repeater is provided with a means which receives a packet from a source station in a first Ethernet collision domain and transmits this packet to a destination work station in a second Ethernet collision domain. The repeater is provided with a means, by which the repeater establishes credit- base flow control to the source work station, and a means by which the repeater transmits a credit to the source work station in response to credit-base flow control to the source. The repeater is provided with a means which causes the source work station to transmit many packets to the repeater in response to reception of the credit, and the number of these packets is limited by the value of the credit.
|
