The present invention concerns a propulsion system, especially automotive, comprising an internal combustion engine (1), at least one electrically driven machine (3) capable of impelling a torque to said engine (1), and a control unit (21) to act upon the electrically driven machine in idling speed of said internal combustion engine (1) so as to frustrate any change of the idling speed by impelling either a driving or a braking torque. Said invention also relates to an appropriate method.
