GENETICALLY TRANSFORMED PLANTS DEMONSTRATING RESISTANCE TO PORPHYRINOGEN BIOSYNTHESIS-INHIBITING HERBICIDES

A bacterial gene (hemG) encoding a PROTOX enzyme, resistant to PBI herbicide compounds has been cloned and used to transform plants and seeds. Plant tissue transformed with hemG demonstrates a resistance to PBI herbicides and plants grown from transformed seeds possess the PBI herbicide-resistant phenotype.
