System for checking the integrity of filter elements

Checking the integrity of filter elements comprises :(a) flushing the filter with a scavenging gas which is more soluble in the filter fluid than the test gas; (b) admitting filter fluid under pressure to both sides of the filter which dissolves in the scavenging gas; (c) passing the test fluid through the filter; (d) admitting test gas under pressure to one side of the filter; and (e) determining the permeability of the elements by measuring a physical parameter, which is proportional to permeability, on at least one side of the elements. Also claimed is the plant layout for applying this system.
