the device has a motorized setting drive controlled by a computer to set the print head and/or the printing block to a desired distance. The desired position is stored in the computer and the printing gap can be restored to the predefined desired position after being opened. The setting drive for setting the printing gap is the drive motor (1) for paper transport, esp. a stepper motor which can be alternatively coupled to setting elements via a switchable coupling (3,4,5).
