Electrophotographic printer

The printer eg. copier, printer, fax machine, has a moving image carrier which is moved past a charging station, an image exposure station and through a processing station where the latent image is developed using toner powder. To prevent wastage of toner a failure control is fitted. This identifies faults and immediately stops the charging process. The image carrier is moved through the following processes. The processing stage is stopped after the image carrier has passed. The failure control is suited for image carriers coupled to inertial masses eg. a flywheel coupled to a rotating drum. Typical failure reasons include paper jam, door opening etc. The processing station normally has a DC signal overlaid with an AC signal. During the failure mode the AC signal is blocked.
