The retaining strip has top and bottom mounting edges held taut by tensioning components (18,19) detachable from each other on the strip and the vehicle bodywork. A spring-loaded locking catch (K) on one component engages with a rack (Z) on the other. The rack is part of a guide rail containing a guidance chamber for a body on which the catch is mounted. The body is detachable from the rail, which can form a T-section guide groove with bottom, sides and flanges. The narrow surface of one flange (23) extends towards the other one and forms the rack. The body can be of mating T-section, the catch hinging in it in a plane parallel to the groove bottom.
