A base serving as a stay for a door mirror for an automobile and a mounting construction for a base cover, the mounting construction being capable of correcting the deformation of the base cover, preventing the generation of wind noise and preventing the increase in thickness of the stay. A discontinued recessed portion (10) is formed in a bottom surface of the base (1) around a mounting hole (9) in a circumferential direction. An opening (12) corresponding to the mounting hole (9) in the base (1) and a hook-like locking piece (15) erected from a circumferential edge portion of the opening (12) are formed on the base cover (3), and a leading locking portion (14) of the locking piece (15) is formed such that its thickness becomes substantially equal to the depth of the recessed portion (10) in the base (1). Furthermore, a first projecting portion (16) that is continuous in a circumferential direction relative to a base portion (13) of the locking piece (15) is formed on the base cover (3), and a second projecting portion (18) that is positioned close to the first projecting portion (16) in a radially outward direction is formed in the base (1). <IMAGE> |
