A selection mechanism (not shown) admits air to one .of a number of tubes 3 of radially arranged set of tubes (only one shown) so that when a knife 9 rotates a cut tuft is deposited into an opening 2 of a cylinder 1 which then rotates until the opening 2 is opposite the end of a flexible tube 4 through which the tufts are blown onto a backing or have their ends bonded together on a temporary backing. Instead of a rotating drum 1 as reciprocating blade may push the tufts down a channel 14 onto a conveyor &c. To feed the yarns to the tubes 3 a clamp 6 is operated to clamp the yarns, a pulloff device 7 is reciprocated to pull off yarns from the creel the clamp 6 is opened and a clamp (8) closed so that air in the tubes 3 may draw off the slack length of yarn. |
