Stent containing radioactive material

A vascular prosthesis (stent) has a perforated tube which can be expanded radially if pressure is exerted from inside and is coated on one of its free surfaces. The coating has a biocompatible carrier which contains radioactive material. The radioactive substance is relatively evenly distributed along the length of the stent, in /- 1 layers of the coating. Ideally the coating consists of a first layer containing the radioactive substance and a second layer containing an evenly distributed anticoagulant. The coating's total thickness is 100 mu m, with the radioactive layer comprising about half of this. The radioactive source, which is readily excreted from the body, is P<32> or Au<198> with an activity of approximately 1 mu Curie. The anticoagulant is e.g. hirudin.
