A process for the preparation of diphenylalkanes comprises condensing aniline or a lower alkyl C 1-4 or halogen-substituted aniline, under pressure and in an acid aqueous medium, with a ketone of the formula R 1 -CO-R 2 in which R 1 and R 2 are monovalent alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radicals or together form an alkylene radical, in which (a) the molar ratio of water to the aniline is between 2:1 and 7:1, (b) the molar ratio of acid to the aniline is between 0À2:1 and 1À2:1, (c) the molar ratio of the aniline to the ketone is between 1:1 and 5:1 and (d) the reaction temperature is above 150‹ C. Examples describe the preparation of 2,2-bis- (4-aminophenyl) - propane and -butane, 2,2-bis-(4-amino-3- methylphenyl) propane, 1,1 - bis - (4 - aminophenyl) - 1 - phenylethane, 1,1 - bis - (4 - aminophenyl) cyclohexane, 1,1 - bis - (4 - amino - 3 - methylphenyl) cyclohexane, 2,2 - bis - (4 - amino- 3 - chlorophenyl) propane and 1,1 - bis - (4- amino-3-chlorophenyl) cyclohexane.</p> |
