The switching device has a selection lever (1) displaced along a switching guide (3) for selecting different automatic drive programmes and moved transversely for reception in a second switching guide (4). The selection lever can be displaced in opposite directions along the second switching guide to allow a higher or lower gear ratio to be selected manually.
