PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject lubricant that can give synthetic fiber to be used as an industrial material which is produced at elevated temperature under high contact pressure a sufficient level of lubricity to cause no fluffing and yarn breakage by using a specific polyether-polyester block copolymer as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This lubricant contains, as an active ingredient, a polyether- polyester block copolymer of the formula (X is the residue remaining after removing all of the hydroxyl groups from an aliphatic hydrocarbon group bearing 1-6 hydroxyl group in its molecule; A<1> is a 2-4C alkylene; Y<1> is a divalent 2-23C aliphatic hydrocarbon group; R<1> is H, a 2-28C alkanoyl; a is an integer of 2-50; b is an integer of 1-5; c is an integer of 4-100; p is an integer of 1-6; q is an integer of 0-2; 1<=p+q<=6 and p>q; Z is hydroxy group). This compound is prepared by ring-opening polymerization of alkylene oxide to the hydroxyl groups of mono- hexahydric aliphatic hydroxy compound, formation of jointing group and formation of polyester blocks.
