The present invention provides methods of treating a subject suffering from a disorder associated with elevated levels of VLA-1 which comprises administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an antibody which specifically forms a complex with VLA-1, inhibits collagen binding to VLA-1, and is directed to the epitope to which antibody 1B3.1 (ATCC No. HB10536) is directed and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
