PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having high ejection frequency and capable of forming a high density image of high quality free from blur. SOLUTION: An ink jet printer has the recording head arranged in opposed relation to a platen roller and the recording head has a plurality of ejection electrodes to which ink is supplied. A platen roller is set to predetermined potential VO and, in such a state that all of ejection electrodes are set to bias potential Vb, recording voltage Vp is applied to the electrodes selected corresponding to an image signal and ink is allowed to fly to form an image. When the above mentioned recording operation is completed, all of the ejection electrodes are returned to bias potential and the potential of the platen roller is controlled to cleaning potential V1. At this time, the cleaning potential V1 is determined so as to form Vp-VO<Vb-V1. By this constitution, the ink stagnated at an ejection point without being allowed to fly is allowed to fly by a stronger electric field and new ink is supplied. |
