摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of complication of operation effected by a driver to cope with the occurrence of lowering of effectiveness of an engine brake. SOLUTION: An electronic control device for a transmission T-ECU 3 causes an automatic transmission A to effect a shift change and apply an engine brake by outputting a control signal to a hydraulic control device. The T-ECU 3 detects or predicts the occurrence of abnormal lowering of an engine brake. In which case, the fail of the various solenoids of a hydraulic control device is detected and further and decision is effected based on a detecting value of deceleration of a vehicle. During the occurrence of abnormality, the T-ECU 3 feeds a brake demand signal to a brake ECU 104. The wheel brake ECU 104 restores the magnitude of vehicle deceleration to a value before the occurrence of abnormality by operating a wheel brake 102. Thus, a need for a driver to operate a brake pedal to cope with lowering of an engine brake force is eliminated.
