<p>1514193 Branch joints J ROBLES 14 May 1975 [14 May 1974] 20462/75 Heading F2G A hole in the wall of a ductile non-ferrous, e.g. copper tube is prepared for attachment of a branch pipe by an apparatus comprising two rods 8, e.g. of forged steel, that are inserted into the hole and then clamped back-to-back in a hollow screw-threaded head portion 4 of a hollow saddle 1 that is secured to the pipe by a clip 13, subsequent rotation of the head portion 4 relative to the saddle 1 both rotating and lifting the rods 8 to produce a lip on the hole, e.g. for brazing of the branch pipe. The rods 8 have cut-outs 9 that engage a diametric pin 7 in the head portion 4, the cut-outs being arranged so that the rods become locked when the head is rotated for lifting. Preferably a peg 10 on one rod engages a sealing 11 on the other to interlock the rods. The rods 8 are semi-circular in section so that they fit back to back easily. The rods 8 may be reduced next to the curved portions 12 in order to produce a step to rest on the edge of the hole in the tube. The clip 13 is elastic and its ends fit into openings in the skirt 2 of the saddle 1; a number of such openings may be provided for adjustment. Alternatively spring loops formed in the clip 13 may provide sufficient flexiblity for different sizes of tube. A centring template (not shown) is fitted intermediate the saddle 1 and tube and comprises an oblong metal part of metal stronger than the pipe material, and partly concave in crosssection. It contains holes of different diameters to suit the diameter of branch opening required.</p> |
