PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an oil level for lessening an efficiency drop due to the agitation of oil with a rotary member when a high speed gear ratio is selected, while preventing an automatic transmission from drawing the air at low oil temperature. SOLUTION: An automatic transmission T has an oil sump 1 with an oil pump intake port 41a under rotary members 19, 21 and 32 operable under the feed of oil, and another oil sump 2 separated from the rotary members 19, 21 and 32. The oil sump 2 has an oil hole 2a for feeding back oil to the oil sump 1 while limiting the flow thereof. A control device has a feed means 3 for feeding oil to the oil sump 2 at a high-speed gear ratio, and a prohibition means for prohibiting the achievement of a high-speed gear ratio at low oil temperature. According to this construction, an oil level in the oil sump 1 is raised at low oil temperature for preventing the air intake of the oil pump. Furthermore, oil is reserved in the oil sump 2 at the high-speed gear ratio at high oil temperature for lowering an oil level in the oil sump 1 and the agitation of the oil with the rotary members 19, 21 and 32 is thereby prevented. |
