PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a method for producing a preform from a chalcogenide glass and a method for producing single mode fiber by a preform method. SOLUTION: A glass preform is produced by integrating a disk-like glass base material for forming a core and a disk-like glass base material for forming a clad by an extrusion method. A glass fiber is produced by etching the surface of the preform comprising chalcogenide glass or oxychalcogenide glass with an etching liquid including an acid and a compound having reactivity to hydrogen chalcogenide, and carrying out wire drawing of the etched preform. |
