PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biological indicator capable of accurately determining the activities of fumigation sterilization by formaldehyde gas. SOLUTION: This biological indicator constituted of (a) a vessel body 1 packed with a nutrient medium 2, and hermetically sealed with a break-openable seal 3 impermeable by the nutrient medium and a gas for sterilization, (b) a vessel cap 5 having openings 6 allowing a gas to pass freely, attached to the vessel body 1 and capable of being depressed, and (c) a carrier 4 for microorganisms arranged in a space formed by the cap 5 and the inner surface of the vessel body 1 and carrying the microorganism on the surface. The sterilizing gas can reach the surface of the microorganism carrier 4 through the openings 6. When the vessel cap 5 is pushed down, the microorganism carrier 4 breaks and opens the seal 3 and is thrown into the nutrient medium 2, and the vessel cap 5 is fitted into the vessel to hermetically seal the vessel. |
