PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound having a specific oxidation potential and capable of remarkably promoting photopolymerization when used in a photopolymerization system. SOLUTION: This compound has an oxidation potential of <=0.5V measured by using a silver-silver chloride electrode as a reference electrode. Preferably, the objective compound has a urilodyl group or tetrahydroquinolyl group bonded through a conjugate double bond and especially has a structure expressed by the formula I [R<1> to R<5> are each H, an alkyl or a substituent of the formula II (R<7> to R<10> are each H or methyl; R<11> is H, methyl or OH); R<6> is a (substituted)cyclopentadienyl<-> or aπ-arene; (n) is 1 or 2]. The objective compound can be produced e.g. by the Witting reaction of a ruthenocene derivative with urolidyl aldehyde.
