PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject protein, derived from Staphylococcus aureus which is the second leading cause of bacteremia in cancer patients and useful as an antimicrobial agent, a vaccine, etc., capable of treating bacterial infection such as staphylococcal infection. SOLUTION: This new topoisomerase III protein comprises an amino acid sequence of the formula and is derived from Staphylococcus aureus or its fragment, analogue or derivative. The protein is obtained from an isolated nucleic acid molecule capable of encoding a mature polypeptide expressible by a Staphylococcus aureus polynucleotide contained in a deposited strain NCIMB 40771 according to a recombinant DNA technology. |
