PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove CO and HC by using a porous material having fine pores with specified aperture diameter as a support member and dispersedly depositing noble metals and group IIA metals as catalytic metals on the support, regarding a catalyst for exhaust gas purification produced by depositing catalytic metals on the support member. SOLUTION: Regarding a catalyst to purify an exhaust gas and comprising a support member and catalytic metals deposited on the support member, the supporting member is made of a porous material having fine pores with 0.7-20.0nm aperture diameter and as catalytic metals, noble metals and group IIA metals are mixed and dispersedly deposited on the support member. As the porous material, one or more materials selected from β-type zeolites, Y-type zeolites, etc., are used and as group IIA metals, one or more metals selected from Ba, Mg, and Ca are used. Consequently, before the catalyst exhibits the activity, HC with large size can be taken in and HC is removed by the catalyst which reaches the activation temperature, resulting in suppression of the emission amount of HC without being treated. |
