PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject powder capable of exhibiting excellent oxidation resistance and suppressing discoloring due to long-term storage without impairing good aggregation resistance and solidification resistance and water soluble property and useful for granular detergent by compounding a specific amount of a chelating agent or antioxidant therein. SOLUTION: This surfactant powder comprises (A) >=40%α-sulfofatty acid alkyl ether salt, e.g. a compound of the formula [R<1> is an 8-18C alkyl or alkenyl; R<2> is a 1-5C alkyl or a monovalent alkali (earth) metal or a (substituted) ammonium] and (B) 0.001-0.4% chelating agent [e.g. ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (salt)] or antioxidant (e.g. 2,6-di-tert.butyl-4-methylphenol), and in the surfactant powder, pH of 1wt.% aqueous solution thereof is >=7.5.
